Players and communities team up to prepare for new season with NatWest CricketForce

Over 2,200 cricket clubs alongside thousands of volunteers signed up for this year’s NatWest CricketForce, which took place from 1-2 April 2017.

NatWest CricketForce is a nationwide initiative aimed at cricket clubs. It’s goal is to bring clubs and local communities closer together, and ensure grounds and facilities are ready for the new cricket season.

Martyn Wilson, Head of Sponsorship, Hospitality & Events at NatWest, said: “We’re incredibly proud to continue our support of the NatWest CricketForce programme and the vital work undertaken by thousands of volunteers at cricket clubs across England & Wales each year. These clubs are often the heartbeat of the diverse communities they serve, a place where everyone is welcome, so we are delighted that the programme continues to grow.”

Current and former England stars also contributed towards rejuvenating clubs. This included England star Alistair Cook turned his hand to painting at Copdock Cricket Club near Ipswich. Other players who volunteered included Mike Gatting, Jonny Bairstow, Anya Shrubsole, Zafar Ansari and Steven Finn.

Alastair Cook said: “It’s important that we as players continue to give something back to the club game. We all appreciate what an important role club cricket played in our own development and love for the game.”

Since it launched back in 2001, NatWest Cricketforce has grown into one of the largest sports volunteering initiatives in the country. It offers an opportunity for clubs to engage members who don’t usually get involved and also to attract new members. The programme has previously won a Sport Industry award for its work encouraging clubs to engage with local communities.
