The programme enables customers to earn rewards by making purchases at participating retailers, including Tesco, BP, Cineworld, Café Nero and Hungry Horse. Customers can redeem these rewards by transferring them as money to their current account, trading them up for retail gift vouchers or donating them to one of four chosen charities.

Les Matheson, CEO for Personal & Business Banking, said: “Since our Cashback Plus programme launched in August last year it has gone from strength to strength. I’m really pleased that a growing number of our customers are being rewarded for their everyday debit card spend”.

“One million customers registering for Cashback Plus is a real achievement and demonstrates that our current account customers value the benefits.”

Two new retailers - Laithwaite's and The Body Shop – are joining the list of places where customers can earn rewards.

In February this year, the Cashback Plus programme won the ‘Best Card Benefits Programme of the Year’ at the Card and Payments Awards.
