There’s a strange feel to the global economy. It showed a marked improvement during July but it was very much driven by the developed economies.

For the most part, they have been the laggards to the emerging world in the post-crisis era. Many emerging markets are dealing with a structural slowdown in growth, and it’s the biggest ones in particular. Their problem is being compounded by reduced investor flows as the US Fed considers tapering its QE programme. This amounts to an effective tightening of monetary policy for many emerging economies.
