World economy barometer - February 2013
The global composite Purchasing Managers Index (PMI), a key survey of private sector activity in manufacturing and services, fell in January.

It’s now been below its long-term average for almost a year. But scratching below the surface reveals quite a few good news stories. For one thing, our heatmap over the past two months looks better than it has for the past six months. And the global services employment component reached a post-crisis period high, driven by the US. Signs of better times ahead have not been uncommon in recent years. The problem is that they’ve proved fleeting. Green shoots are vulnerable to frost.
