World economy barometer - more spluttering
The global economy is treading water and there is cause for concern as 2013 approaches. Fiscal cliff fears were always going to be the obvious culprit for a slowdown into the year end.

But it's difficult to pin all the blame on the failure of US politicians to reach a compromise. Fears over a hard-landing in China may have subsided, but the same cannot be said for the eurozone.
