NatWest supports ICON's acquisition of SLS GroupWest

ICON, the leading sports, commercial and cultural branding organisation has successfully completed its acquisition of SLS Group with NatWest backing.

ICON was formed in 1947 and today offers over 60 years experience in signage and branding. Operating from its headquarters in Sidcup, Kent, the company employ 80 full- time staff based in the UK and overseas working with clients from initial design concept through to production and on-site implementation. Over the years it has fostered ties with an impressive client list, including International and Domestic Cricket, FIFA World Cup, Wimbledon Tennis and The Ryder Cup all served from their UK, Germany, Qatar, Dubai, Abu Dhabi and South Africa offices.

ICON's latest expansion includes the acquisition of Hampshire-based SLS Group - a company known in the events industry for its delivery and implementation of city dressing, event branding, both in the UK and overseas. ICON purchased the company's assets, including event and display equipment and their ten staff including Managing Director, Giles Stanford to enhance ICON's existing offering in the rental market of event display equipment - an area the company were looking to leverage. This was enabled through the use of a £1m funding package - NatWest provided £500,000 with the remaining £500,000 provided in-house.

John Francis, Managing Director, ICON said:

"ICON has worked with SLS on a number of high profile events, including last year's Ryder Cup and we have been aware for some time of the quality of their work and people. We are delighted to have been able to agree this acquisition through NatWest and are confident that SLS skills will enhance our own offering to bring real benefit to both new and existing clients who are looking for a genuinely turnkey solution."

Richard Marshall, Business Development Director, from NatWest's Structured Debt Solutions team, said:

"Having previously supported ICON with their MBO in October 2008, we know the management team extremely well so did not hesitate to support the acquisition of SLS Group. Combined with the support of my colleague, Richard Gower at NatWest in Maidstone, we have seen continued growth on the back of successful strategies and wish them well with the opportunities this will bring."
