Employee engagement

Sustainable business principles

This theme relates to our Principle of being A Good Employer:

  • Providing our people with the tools and support to do their jobs effectively and develop their skills
  • Valuing and promoting diversity in all areas of recruitment and employment
  • Rewarding our people fairly for their work

Read all of our principles

Being a good employer is a key part of running a successful business. We recognise that if our people are enthusiastic about working for us, it's not only good for them, customers will benefit too.

"Long-term, sustainable success for RBS relies on recruiting, developing and retaining people who can deliver for our customers. That’s why we value our people so highly, and are committed to offering them a great working environment."

Elaine Arden, Group Human Resources Director

Engaging and developing our people
Engaging with employees on the issues that matter most to them is core to how we run our organisation.

Supporting our people during restructuring
We continue to make changes to our business required by our strategic plan. We support those staff affected by these changes in a number of ways.

Remuneration
We must pay and incentivise our employees in a way that attracts, retains and motivates employees while being responsible and ensuring that remuneration is firmly linked to performance.
Diversity and inclusion
The promotion of diversity and inclusion in the workplace continues to be a key priority and we have set long term goals for diversity across the Group.
Employee volunteering and giving
We give our people the opportunity to support good causes and get involved in the community.
Employee representation
We are committed to building constructive relationships with our social partners and industry and trade bodies.
Employability
We want to be a positive force within the society, and aim to do what we can to support economic growth and job creation.
