NatWest tests new ‘Living’ apps

NatWest is beta-testing a series of new mobile banking apps at two branches in East London. The apps aim to help customers with big ‘life events’ like moving house by helping them manage their money using the latest technology.

The new apps will help NatWest go further than simply support customers with everyday banking by using technology to make their lives easier.

Phil Northey, NatWest’s Branch and Private Banking Managing Director for London and the South East said: “We want to give people the tools to help them plan their lives and the events they will encounter – whether that’s going to university or having a baby; buying a home or dealing with bereavement.”

“Traditionally what we might have done in the past is develop an app, release it and then see what happens next. But we knew that with this, if we were going to get it right, we needed to work with our customers and get their feedback.”

One of the apps, Spendorama, is a series of games and challenges based round spending habits. It challenges users to “Spend Nothing in a Day” and also features a way for the user to rate their purchases.

The other two apps being trialled – HouseMove and ManageMoney – focus on the customers’ life experiences and their day-to-day money management.

The bank is asking for customer feedback on which ‘life events’ they want help to plan for financially and what they think about the first three apps. So far customer feedback has been positive and testing continues before the bank decides how to further develop and potentially roll out the new apps.
