Advertising

Advertising, emphasising our Make it happen philosophy, has helped build awareness of our brand around the world.

In our advertising we have tried to establish the market "truth" that RBS people have an innate ability to get things done. And that message has, hopefully, been presented in an engaging manner with intelligent wit and accurate observation.

  1. RBS "Here for you" Campaign - Mobile banking - Scotland

The first TV ad features Donald Angus Campbell, a fisherman from the Isle of Skye, who has experienced fantastic customer service at our Portree branch and when living in rural Uig, our mobile branch made it much easier for him to manage his money.

  5. "The First Tee - Vittal" Awareness Campaign: US.

Our golf sponsorships have played a major role in building our profile in the US. In a market where financial sponsors are two-a-penny, we wanted to make a difference. Our Trusteeship of The First Tee, a charity that uses golf to teach life skills to disadvantaged young people, helped achieve that objective. Five commercials were produced, promoting the work of this charity and featuring youngsters telling their own poignant stories.

  6. "The First Tee - Learn" Awareness Campaign: US.

The commercials capture what golf means to weekend golfers and contrast that with the life enhancing values The First Tee participants ascribe to the game. Presented by fellow Trustee and RBS global ambassador Jack Nicklaus, we also linked individual commercials to The USGA or The PGA of America who were founder Trustees. The campaign produced a 46% yr on yr increase in activity on The First Tee website.

  7. "The Open 2005" Golf Majors Campaign: US.

Having had an association with the R&A for over 100 years, golf has formed the cornerstone of our brand building in the US. RBS has been a Patron of The Open Championship since 1994, so it was fortuitous that RBS global ambassador Jack Nicklaus chose the 2005 Open at St Andrews to retire from competitive golf. This commercial records that memorable occasion.

  8. "The US Open" Golf Majors Campaign: US.

We have avoided being a conventional tournament sponsor (like other banks) and have built on our relationship with the R&A, to become part of the fabric of US Golf. We are now a Patron of The PGA of America and The USGA, supporting their respective Major Championships, with commercials featuring RBS global ambassador Jack Nicklaus, still the man to beat with 18 Major titles.

  9. "Pine Tree" Corporate Campaign: US

Where, to date, we had placed our "Majors" golf creative within the coverage of the relevant tournament, our corporate campaign had focussed on News and Current Affairs programming. In 2008 we took golf into the "corporate" space for the first time, by creating three new commercials which used golf to tell the story. Pine Tree, like the other two, uses humour to illustrate a business truth.

  10. "Tailor" Launch Campaign: India

There are only three sports that have popular appeal in India. Cricket, cricket and cricket. In launching RBS, and the transition from ABN Amro, we needed to create high impact very quickly. Enlisting the help of cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar, we produced a commercial that used his iconic status to introduce RBS to an important future market, for the Group.

  11. "I play for India" Launch Campaign: India

On the 26th of November 2008, terrorists killed over 200 people in attacks on key Mumbai hotels and railway station. These atrocities occurred in the middle of the RBS sponsored One Day International Series. In response to the tragedy, with Sachin Tendulkar's support, we produced this commercial in memory of the victims of the attack. It was aired during the India v England test series, in December.
