MPC Decision Commentary
12th January 2012
Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) keeps the Bank Rate unchanged at 0.5%
Comment from Fionnuala Earley, UK Consumer Economist:
A new year, but no new policy from the MPC. Inflation should begin to recede from the end of January as VAT falls out of the calculations, but domestic economic conditions are still weak with all the risk to the downside. With this background it still seems likely that the Bank of England will expand quantitative easing, but the time just isn't right yet.
