Careers FAQs

How do I apply for a position I have seen on the website?

This varies depending on the vacancy. Please follow the specific application instructions for the role you wish to apply for.

I have received a direct email with an offer of employment and a request for some personal information from the Royal Bank of Scotland Group. Is this normal procedure?

RBS Group will never send emails asking for personal information, ask for payment of any kind or make offers of employment without the recipient being involved in a structured recruitment process. Here are some ways to identify recruitment fraud:

  • the senders will often ask recipients to send them personal details. This may include application forms, visa forms or identity documents.
  • emails will often include the RBS name and logo without authority (usually the logo is of a poor quality). The name of a genuine recruitment/agency website may be used to make the scam appear more credible.
  • candidates are often requested to contact other companies or professionals, such as lawyers, barristers, immigration officials or travel agencies.
  • emails often originate from free web-based email accounts such as Yahoo.com, Yahoo.co.uk, Gmail.com, Googlemail.com and Hotmail.com.
  • job offers will often be very generous with favourable terms and conditions such as a personal driver, paid accommodation and high salary.

Be especially cautious if these emails contain attachments or the following telephone numbers as these are often charged at premium rate:

  • do not enter into any correspondence with these individuals, give them your personal details or send payment of any kind.
    • UK: +44-70xx
    • Netherlands: +31-6xx
    • Spain: +34-6xx
    • Belgium: +32-4xx
    • South Africa: +27-7x or +27-8x
    • Nigeria: +234-80x.

Contact the police if you believe you have been the victim of recruitment fraud. Further information is available at www.antiphishing.org

I know where I would like to work, but can't see any way to apply for a role on your website; can I send my CV/resume instead?

RBS Group only accept a CV/resume as a method of application where indicated. New career opportunities are published as soon as they arise. In most instances, you will also have the option to register to receive email alerts. This will ensure you are aware of all relevant opportunities as they arise.

Do I need the right to work in the country to which I am applying?

Yes. If you already have the right to work via a work visa or spouse please highlight these details in your application. We only sponsor work visas in specific circumstances; eligibility varies from country to country and with each individual case.

If you do not have the right to work in the country to which you are applying, you should highlight this as early in the recruitment process as possible.

What should I do if I have a disability that may affect my performance at any stage of the recruitment process?

Please let us know prior to any assessment event what assistance you may need during the recruitment process. We will work with you to make sure it's put in place.

When will I know if I have been successful? What is the timescale involved?

It is difficult to give a fixed timescale as this varies depending on the nature of role you are applying for. We will respond to you as soon as possible and advise you of the next steps.

What career prospects can I expect in a company like the RBS Group?
