Our Priorities
Every year we strengthen the extent and rigour of our consultation with our stakeholders. The issues that matter most to them provide the focus and priorities for activities.
Environmental issues pose both risks and opportunities for our business and the world. In 2007, we set up an executive-led Group Environmental Board to oversee all our environmental activity.
Direct environmental impact
We are:
- Investing over £40 million in our property portfolio to improve energy and water efficiency
- Constantly experimenting with new technologies such as solar panels and ground source heat pumps to identify ways of reducing our impact still further
- Continuing to install videoconferencing facilities to provide employees with alternatives to flying
- Actively encouraging cycling and bus travel to work
Engaging employees
In 2007 we launched YourWorld - a dedicated environmental website for our employees. The site features:
- Advice on how to reduce their own environmental impact
- An innovative carbon calculator
- Money saving offers on greener products and services
- Information about what we're doing around environmental issues
Environmental products and services

- Over 1 million online customers signed up to receive e-statements rather than paper statements
